Valentine’s Day is often a whirlwind of pink construction paper and sugar rushes, but at the heart, it is a beautiful opportunity to teach our children about the things that matter most: kindness, connection, and how to care for one another.
At Over the Top Learning Center, we believe that the best learning moments happen during shared and intentional moments.
Whether you have five minutes or a whole afternoon, here are fives ways to celebrate Valentine's Day with your kids:

Create a Heart Craft
Crafting is a wonderful way for children to process their emotions while practicing their big kid physical skills. Sitting at the kitchen table together with a glue stick and some glitter isn't just about the finished product; it’s a space for your child to show you how they see the world.
Learning Focus: Emotional expression, creativity, and fine motor development.

Bake Memories in the Kitchen
There is no better classroom than a flour-dusted kitchen. Inviting your little ones to help measure, pour, and shape heart-shaped treats does more than just satisfy a sweet tooth, it builds their confidence and teaches them the value of following a process from start to finish
Learning Focus: Early math skills, following directions, and teamwork.

Practice Heart-Forward Kindness
We love to teach our students that love is an action word. Challenge your child to complete a small act of kindness: sharing a favorite toy with a sibling, helping a neighbor carry a package, or simply offering a genuine "thank you" to a friend.
Learning Focus: Social-emotional learning, empathy, and community awareness.

Snuggle Up for Storytime
A quiet moment on the couch with a good book is often the highlight of a child’s day. Choose stories that celebrate the diversity of friendship and the many ways we can show we care, through words, actions, and even just being present.
Learning Focus: Language development, literacy skills, and emotional awareness.

Celebrate the Gift of Friendship
While you’re driving to school or snuggling at bedtime, talk about what makes a "good friend." These conversations help children navigate their social world with kindness and clarity, building the foundation for healthy relationships later in life.
Learning Focus: Communication skills, confidence, and relationship building.
